No alcohol? No problem!

Are you trying to decide whether or not to serve alcohol at your wedding, but are torn by the fact that you think people won’t enjoy themselves or your family will be upset? Well, here’s a little encouragement: You don’t have to debate this issue any longer! [Plus, it’s YOUR wedding. Remeber that it’s your day and you get the final say in all decisions.]

We at The One have had many friends tie the knot this past summer and at many of these weddings, the specialty drink did NOT include alcohol. Although serving and toasting with alcohol is very common at weddings in South Texas, not serving alcohol is becoming a trend! If your family chooses not to drink alcohol or if there just isn’t room to budget alcoholic beverages in your wedding (this can get expensive!), we want you to know that there are other options.

My friend Stevie’s decision to not serve alcohol at her wedding was easy.

“We didn’t have alcohol at our wedding because it was the only thing my parents had requested, and they were footing the bill. Instead, we got Hosmer Mountain sodas (birch beer is [my husband’s] favorite) and had an old fashioned soda stand.”

Two of my sorority sisters also opted out of serving alcohol at their weddings.

Molly: “We didn’t have alcohol because we don’t drink and neither does [my husband’s] family. Instead we had a soda bar, tea, water, and I think our reception place…concocted a juice made up of orange, pineapple, etc. Iced tea always goes well with Mexican food, I think!!”

Natalie: “[My husband] and I didn’t totally opt out of it, but we only had a one hour cocktail hour while we were taking pictures…Our wedding coordinator actually commented on the same thing as we were leaving. She said that she had never seen such a fun party with no alcohol. We had soo much fun and danced all night and I’m pretty sure I might have had like 2 sips of the champagne my bridesmaids brought me. Other than that most people were enjoying the milk from [my husband’s] cookies and milk. He decided on that for his groom’s cake and it was a huge hit! I’ve actually heard of people doing beer or root beer bottles of milk as well. It’s super cute! Both of my sisters totally opted out of alcohol at their weddings and they were both an absolute blast.”

As you can see, many brides have been successful in throwing fabulous wedding receptions without alcohol and you can too! Your reception will be unique with flavored teas, milk, specialty soads, or whatever you choose to drink with your new husband. This special day is all about you two, so pick a beverage that you both love and you’re sure to enjoy yourselves!
