Spotlight Column

About five months ago on May 29th, 2011 DeeAnna and Matthew Gregston were wed at the Art Museum of South Texas in front of 180 family members and friends. Twelve months prior their engagement began with a romantic vacation, and a little bit of compromise. We are very proud to debut their wedding as the first entry in our new Spotlight column!

The ProposalMatt and DeeAnna went to Puerto Rico with her grandparents and cousins in the summer of 2010. They stayed on the beach and Matt kept pestering her about going to Old San Juan to check out that part of the city. Because it was so far away and at the end of the day they were always exhausted, she kept putting him off. By the time their last night in Puerto Rico came around, Matt was really antsy to get over to Old San Juan. However, DeeAnna put her foot down and refused to go. Later that night, Matt did convince her to at least go down to the beach outside our hotel with him. They sat by the waves, and he proposed. Obviously, she said yes. By the end of the night he revealed that his original plan was to get her to Old San Juan to propose in front of a famous water fountain there. Fortunately, the proposal was still perfect…even though it wasn’t what he originally planned.

  Bride and Groom Questions!

What was your favorite detail about the wedding?

DeeAnna:I loved the flipbooks. They were the most unique part of the wedding. The room that we had them set up in was full for the ENTIRE wedding. Also, they gave us a CD with a compilation of everyone’s flipbooks from throughout the night. It’s my favorite keepsake from the entire wedding.

Matthew: It’s so hard to label a favorite detail, there were so many great details that when put all together made everything perfect. From our venue at the art museum to the decorations by Razzle Dazzle every detail was a favorite of mine.

What was your biggest challenge?DeeAnna:Managing stress throughout the year. It was a busy year; both of us graduated from college, worked full time jobs, prepared to move to Fort Worth, AND planned the wedding.

Matthew:The biggest challenge for me was seeing DeeAnna so stressed out all the time.

What was the funniest/most embarrassing moment of the evening?

DeeAnna: DEFINITELY trying to get into my reception dress. I wanted to do it quickly but it had a corset top. My maid of honor and bridesmaid had to keep me entertained for the 20 minutes it took to lace up.

Matthew: As DeeAnna started walking down the aisle my cheek started twitching noticeably every time I smiled. I’m assuming it was due to a mixture of nervousness and the fact that my cheek muscles were so exhausted from smiling all day. But it was ironic that the time where I wanted to smile the most I physically couldn’t without my entire right cheek vibrating.

If you could do one thing over again what would it be?DeeAnna:For it not to end! It was the most amazing day in the entire world and I can’t believe how quickly it all went by. I wish that we had more time to enjoy every little detail we spent a year planning.

Matthew:I would do everything over again and wouldn’t change a thing because it was perfect!

Do you have any advice for future brides and grooms?

DeeAnna: Don’t forget that you’re not just planning a wedding, you should be preparing for marriage as well. It’s beyond important to take time off from wedding planning during the process to enjoy each other and get ready for the huge commitment you will be making.

Matthew: Cherish every moment of the wedding, from the planning, to the ceremony, to the reception, because it’s over before you know it.

Why did you get married, or what does marriage mean to you?DeeAnna:Marriage to me means spending a lifetime living through happiness and hardship with your best friend. I can’t believe how amazing it feels to have Matt in my life knowing that he will be on my team and my biggest fan forever.

Matthew:Marriage to me is the largest commitment one can make to another.  It’s a promise that through thick and thin you will support your spouse and stand by their side.  There is no one I would rather do that with than DeeAnna.

What does it take to make your spouse happy?

DeeAnna: Always see the best in them. If they know that, in your eyes, they are on a pedestal they will feel as special as they really are.
Matthew:  A glass of wine.

What do you look forward to the most about being married?DeeAnna:I look forward to all the challenges that will come from being married. Buying a house, taking vacations, moving to different cities, and raising our own family will be the most exciting and challenging times in our lives and I can’t wait to experience.

Matthew:Continuing to develop our relationship and lives on a new level.

Any other information you’d like other couples to know?

DeeAnna: Try to have fun while planning. Even though it can get stressful, all the planning is for such a beautiful moment in your life. Keep your happiness in mind and the stress will seem minimal.

Matthew: It is important to stay organized by keeping all your wedding stuff together in one location. Truest me it makes thing so much easier.

Greetings! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could locate a captcha plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having difficulty finding one? Thanks a lot!
