Spotlight Column: Troy and Monica Hartman

Just a few months ago on October 22nd, 2011 Troy Hartman and Monica Pulido were joined in holy matrimony at the First United Methodist Church in front of 100 family members and friends. As we see in the Hartman’s spotlight a little adventure and a lot of trust can bring you a long way with love!

The Proposal

Monica was driving home from work and as she routinely does, and she called Troy to chat for a while, talking about their day. He asked her if she wanted to go to Lake Woodlands that evening. Monica’s initial thought was, “no” because she had already planned a night out and was thinking to herself  “can this wait until this weekend because I have to run and write a paper for my class?”
In the end she decided to go to the lake with Troy. They walked by the lake, talked, laughed, and then he took her to the gazebo and where they sat holding each other looking out at the water. Troy pushed away and Monica thought he was just rearranging his arms around her to get more comfortable when he said “I have to ask you something”. He pulled out the most beautiful ring she could ever imagine, got on his knee and asked her to marry him. Monica was ecstatic yet so surprised he chose and designed the ring himself. She was quite impressed, and glad she decided to not run and write her paper that night!

How did they meet?

Monica: Troy’s friend placed an ad for him on craigslist. I had my roommate from college and our other mutual friend over one night and we were all hanging out watching TV. My friend Marissa was on the computer and said she was on Craigslist and found a cute fireman. I was confused because I thought Craigslist was utilized to buy and sell items only. So, I read Troy’s ad and he seemed like a normal friendly guy, so my friend Marissa and I emailed him to see what kind of response we would get if any because she was interested in meeting him. I felt like I was playing matchmaker yet was skeptical because I was not very familiar with Craigslist at the time. Days go by and I receive an email and it was from Troy, he seemed so sweet and normal, I immediately called Marissa to tell her and she had me screen him for questions for her. Long story short, they didn’t seem to have similar interests and or interest in each other, so I very politely informed Troy and told him good luck on his search.  He eventually emailed me kindly asking if I was in a relationship and I informed him no and had no interest at the time because I was consumed with a new job and had just moved to the city. We exchanged emails back and forth, and after a few weeks he asked me out on a date. We ended up hanging out in a group and really hit it off, we ended up going on dates, started dating, and fell in love…the rest is history

Bride and Groom Questions!

What was your favorite detail?

Monica: My favorite detail was when we were pronounced husband and wife and I got to kiss my husband and share that moment with my family and close friends. It was so special, and also our first dance was special to me, because it was literally our first official dance! I had never danced with Troy before, so that dance meant the world to me and was so much fun and felt so perfect. What made our wedding unique was how I stated from the beginning I wanted our wedding to be a “family wedding” and it became just that. Both my parents and Troy’s parents were both involved in the process and especially my mom and mother in law who essentially were my wedding planners and did the planning of the wedding. I feel it is very rare to have a bride let her mother and mother in law plan the wedding, so that alone was unique and with both of their ideas collaborated resulted in the most amazing, elegant, memorable wedding I could ever imagine.

Troy: My favorite detail of the wedding was holding Monica’s hand in the church knowing she was finally my wife. I had wanted that moment for a long time and it felt great to know she was now Monica Hartman.
