Get to know our newest summer intern, Annalisa Yanez! She’s a Corpus Christi native with a “green thumb.” We’ll let her tell you more about herself.
Name: Annalisa Yanez
Tell us About Your Hometown: Well I’ve lived in Corpus Christi, TX, also known as the “Sparkling City By The Bay,” my whole life. It’s a fun city to live in. It all depends on what you make of it. With the early morning baseball games at Whataburger Field to the late night walks downtown, I’d say that Corpus is a really beautiful city. Corpus is known by tourists for its beaches, Water Gardens, and year round warm weather.
My favorite thing to do in South Texas: I like spending time with my friends and family, whether it’s going to the beach during the day or just having a simple family barbecue in the afternoon. I also have the “green thumb” in my family. I enjoy planting fruits and vegetables in my own backyard. It may take a while, but in the end, it’s all worth your efforts.
What is your role at McLeod Creative: Well, I am the newest summer intern. I’m currently getting a feel for this company and learning how things work around the office. I’m ready to help with whatever they need me to do. I’m very excited to be working with McLeod Creative and I’m sure I will have a great time!

The June 2010 cover shoot was one of the most creative yet for The One Bride Guide, thanks to the Alice in Wonderland inspired vision of New Wave Photography. Rob and Amanda from New Wave presented the idea to us, and we thought it was just the kind of creative flare we look for in our cover shoots. The unique shoot required the collaboration of some of the most talented wedding vendors in the business including La De Da Events (decoration), An Affair to Remember (dresses), Simply Elegant by Raymond (cake), Yvonne Vaiz (hair) and Megan Martinez of Chaos Makeup (makeup). A big thanks to our talented models, Evan Shadle, Kaela Neuman and Nicole Light and to the Unitarian Universalist Church for allowing us to shoot the cover in the field adjacent to their church.
This photo shoot was so unique and has generated such a buzz that we’ve had several requests for more of the behind the scenes photos from the June 2010 cover shoot. In response to those requests, here are a few shots taken preparing for the big shoot. For more behind the scenes photos from this and other cover shoots check out the albums on our Facebook fan page.
Also, be sure to visit New Wave’s website and their facebook fan page for even more behind the scenes photos!

Please welcome our new intern, Bettie Billings! She is a marketing student at TAMUCC and we’re excited to have this talented and driven young lady as a member of the team. We’ll let her tell you a little about herself…
Name: Bettie Billings
Tell Us About Your Hometown: I’ve lived all of my life at one address in Rockport, TX. It’s a small but growing community, about a forty-five minute drive from Corpus Christi. Rockport is a very popular tourist destination because of the beach, ski basin, and fishing areas. It’s also home to the Oysterfest, Seafair, and Hummerbird Celebration. I really enjoyed growing up in the community of Rockport because of its many outdoor activities and relaxed atmosphere everywhere you go. It’s a charming fishing community where everyone knows everyone!
What brought you to Corpus Christi: College life has landed me here in Corpus. I am currently attending TAMUCC to pursue a degree in Marketing. Although I’m only a short drive away from Rockport, I have learned and experienced so much more than I ever could by living in the larger city of Corpus.
My favorite thing to do in South Texas: I like going to the beach with Remey, my puppy and doing all things outdoors, whether it be riding bikes, playing a sport, or tanning. I have also recently found a new interest in photography and I enjoy finding new places to snap pictures.
What is your role at McLeod Creative: Well as you know, I’m the new intern! I am currently researching and gathering information for McLeod Creative’s newest (TBA) project. I am also excited to be doing whatever tasks are needed, big or small! I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with McLeod Creative.
She’s been with the McLeod team for almost a month and now it’s time we introduced her to you. Please welcome to The One Bride Guide, our new Sales Executive, Sara Martisek! Sara joins us from Waco, Texas where she recently graduated from Baylor University with a BA in Journalism and Public Relations. We could tell you more, but instead, we’ll let her do this. So, without further ado…
Name: Sara Martisek
Tell us about your hometown: This has always been a tricky question for me! I was born and raised in the small town of Beeville, Texas, just one hour north of Corpus Christi. This is where my love for Mexican food, the beach, and South Texas all began. However, early into my teen years, my family packed up and moved to an even smaller town, Hallettsville, Texas. This “City of Hospitality” is home to the Championship Fiddler’s Frolics, Kolache Fest & Parade, and the State Championship Domino Tournament. Who knew??
What brought you to Corpus Christi: My job at McLeod Creative and The One. My fiancé also lives and works in the Corpus Christi area, so it was nice to take a job that brought us closer together.
Favorite thing to do in South Texas: I like to run on the bay front, go shopping with friends and spend time with Luke. We love going to the movies and eating at our favorite restaurant, Water Street Seafood Co. These days, I’m also really into decorating my new apartment here in Corpus Christi.
What is your role with The One: I handle advertising sales for The One. I’m also enjoying getting to know and work with the driven, creative and fun team at McLeod!
This week we wrapped up press checks for the latest issue of The One over at Golden Banner Press. The issue is looking beautiful, and we are very excited to get it out on the stands this June! Here are some behind the scenes photos of the printing process that goes in to each issue of the magazine.

Tell us about your hometown: Ames, Iowa is home to 50,000 people, Iowa State University, and the ISU Cyclones (yeah, I know, your Texas football teams beat us all the time). Centrally located just 30 minutes North of the state’s capitol of Des Moines, it is an easy drive to many of the Midwest’s largest cities. Ames is a “small” city, but uses it’s college town status to it’s advantage. It is diverse in culture, entertainment, and most importantly…food. If you happen to be driving by on I-35 you should definitely stop and grab a bite at Battles BBQ. Seriously.
What brought you to Corpus Christi: My job with McLeod Creative and The One. Three years ago my husband and both agreed to leave the midwest and try something new after graduation, so when we were offered this opportunity we packed up and headed South.
Favorite thing to do in South Texas: You mean besides driving through Nano’s Tacos every Saturday morning? Hmm… Well, I must admit, I’m a bit of a homebody. Since moving here we’ve made some fantastic friends (cheeeeeesy, I know. But true.) and honestly my favorite thing to do is just get together and hang out. Nothing fancy. Just time spent together. Oh, and game nights. I mean, who doesn’t love game nights, right?
What is your role with The One: I’m the girl peeking out from behind the computer screen. My role as the graphic designer is to design and layout the articles, photos, resources and certain ads for each new issue. I have also been directing some of my energy to our new social media efforts, so make sure to stop by our facebook and twitter to say hi so I don’t get lonely!
